The Secret of Great Bread
The Secret of Great Bread: Let Time Do the Work – New York Times.
My wife is on a low iodine diet right now so we thought it would be a great time to try making our own bread. I basically followed this recipe but substituted one third of the bread flour with whole wheat flour. It came out fantastic. Now I need to find a way to make it in a shape more suitable to sandwiches.
The Path Between the Seas
I’ve been slowly working my way through David McCullough’s books; they’re long so take a while to finish and I have a bit of trouble finding them at Half Price Books. This ones about the building of the Panama Canal. I didn’t find it as riveting as his book about the Brooklyn Bridge, mainly because the latter dealt with on main character pushing to complete the bridge. The canal was an effort by large number of people over a longer period of time.
Ha’ Penny
Ha’ Penny is a sequel is Farthing which I read off the tor.com free ebook promotion. I enjoyed Farthing so I picked this up as soon as it was out in paperback. It’s not a direct sequel, same universe and some overlapping characters, but it’s a new self-contained storyline.
Enjoyable, maybe not quite as good as Farthing. The first is more of a traditional sitting room mystery while in the new book you know who is doing what, it’s more a matter of will the authorities find out in time. I thought the main character fell into the conspiracy plot a bit fast, but I got over it quickly as the book progressed.
