I spent my lunch hour upgrading the site to the latest wordpress release. So far everything seems to work.

Another free book from the Tor promotion, this one was a good ‘ol Southern Gothic horror tale by Cherie Priest. I had heard of it before, so I was happy to grab it for free. I converted the html with calibre and stuck it on my Sony Reader. I enjoyed the characters and the backstory, but I felt the ending wasn’t quite as good as the rest of the book. There wasn’t really wrong with it, the build up was just that much better. As this is her first book, I’ll definitely check out the two sequels.

Along with Tim Powers I’m knocking my way through Charlie Stross. This is book two off three (so far) about parallel universes and a merchant family that can move between them. These have been fun but I haven’t enjoyed them as much as his hard sci-fi. Still, they’re good reads and I’ve got the third book sitting on my to-read shelf.

Now if I can just find a copy of “The Jennifer Morgue”.

I’ve been taking my time going through Tim Powers catalog. Each one so far has been fantastic in it’s own way and I don’t want to rush through them quickly. Last Call ties together Tarot, Poker, and Bugsy Siegel as the Fisher King.
