Guys and Death Masks

One more book in Cerebus’ life, back on Earth and tending bar. Less esotaric than the last one, but not much action.

Harry searches for the Shroud of Turin and has to duel a vampire, good stuff, this series gets better with each book. I hope Jim Butcher can keep it up.

Adrian Legg

We saw Adrian Legg at Anderson Fair last Friday, I think that’s the third or fourth time I’ve seen him there. One man, a guitar, a light, and a very small stage. My only complaint is that the show could have been longer.

Mortgage Spreadsheet

I was playing around with Google Spreadsheets and put together something to help me estimate payoff dates with extra payments.

Feel free to copy it.

Cable

One thing I liked about the house when we saw it was the large study with a built in desk. On thing that was confusing and annoying was the cable outlet on the ceiling.

before

I’m not sure who thought this was the best place to put it.

I cut a hole above the wall, ran a spare cable line down, installed a new work box in the wall…

progress

add on a new face plate and no more cable hanging in front of the shelves.

done

I still need to remove the old outlet, fill the hole with drywall and plaster and paint.

Minds: Cerebus the Aardvark

Once or twice a year I’ll pick up another volume in David Sim’s Cerebus the Aardvark. So far I’m up to Vol. 10, Minds. This was one of the better recent volumes, Cerebus has a heart to heart with his creator Dave, and there was some outstanding artwork showing scenes through out the solar system. The details background of Jupiter were outstanding.

The Dresden Files

With the start of the fairly decent Sci-Fi Channel series The Dresden Files I decided to check out the books.

Storm Front

A good but not great book, it was a quick read over the weekend. Look up wizard in the Chicago phone book and Harry Dresden is the only one you’ll find. A mix of detective novels and fantasy, it reminded me of the Kim Harrison books but without the angst.

Fool Moon

It’s a full moon and the werewolves are out to play. An improvement over the first book, but still lacking something.

Grave Peril

Faery Godmothers and Vampires, it’s not a good time for Harry. This is the first in the series that really grabbed me. A few parts annoyed me, but this was a really good read and a sign the series is improving.

Summer Knight

Already at war with the Vampire Court, now Harry has to deal with a war amongst the Fey folk. Best of the series so far, I had a hard time putting this one down.
