So I wasn’t happy with the signal strength I was getting in the front room of my house, so I put together a little parabolic reflector based on this design.
I picked up a sheet of 6″x12″ copper from the hobby store around the corner and cut it in half with tin snips. I cut a foam piece to use as a template and brace, bent the metal by hand to match and taped it on with double-sided tape. So far I’m seeing a 9-10 dB increase from the laptop.
I took the extra piece of copper, bent it by hand, and just placed it around the USB wireless card I’m using for the Tivo. That boosted it’s performance from 70% to 80% as indicated by the Tivo status panel.
